“Music is Like Having Sex, but Way Better ” Slay Queen of Afro-tech House Music

As women are making an impact in the industry that was traditionally dominated by male artists, the young black female artist Ntsamaeng Moseamedi believes it’s her turn. The talented 25 year old is known to her fans as DJ LOTUS Mae, while others call her the slay queen of Afro-tech house music, because of the unique music she plays on the decks.

DJ Lotus Mae’s journey into music started wayback in 2016. Her love for music pushed her to pursue a diploma in music, before spinning the decks. She didn’t just jump into mainstream, she invested in knowledge while pursuing her hobby. She registred with Central Johannesburg College majoring in music composition, production, sound engineering and music business. She told Daily Sun that she was inspired by DJ Kinetic to pursue deejaying.

“Kinetic was a DJ and content producer for YFM. He gave me the low-down on how the industry works and from that conversation with him, I was sure this was what I wanted to do. My music is unique, as I play Afro-tech sound as a fusion of African beats mixed with techno music. My first breakthrough was in 2017, when I got a gig to play at Chesa Nyama Braamfontien in 2017.”

She now plays on the bigger stage and sharing the platform with the industry’s big guns, after joining Cobra Tycoon Online Radio, which is now known as Opulence Online Radio. This is what she says about music “Music is the theatre of the mind. It paints pictures using sound and it’s like having sex in a way but better,”

She is recognized by international artists such as Frankawara, a music producer from the Canary Island, who opened doors for other international artists paying attention to her work. She was recognized after curating playlists for Paradise Sound System on Spotify. She aims to release her first album called “Phase” which will be available on various digital platforms from July. Fans can expect nice music from the talented Dj.
