“More Zimbabweans are coming to SA” — PA leader reacts to the result of Zimbabwe’s election

After watching the ANC support ZanuPF in rigging the election in Zimbabwe, Gayton Mckenzie the leader of the Patriotic Alliance has come out to warn South Africans that the elections could lead to an influx of illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe to South Africa.

But a Zimbabwean national has come out to blame the ANC for supporting ZanuPF. According to the Twitter user, “You are not Tired of us yet. We are going to marry your brothers and sisters and make little nephews and nieces for you. We will be together for 5 years. It’s high time you start tolerating us. We are here to stay”.

Several international election observer missions and diplomatic missions have published statements after Zimbabweans cast their votes in the elections held on Wednesday, 23 August. The Southern African Development Community (SADC), the British Embassy in Harare, and the US Embassy in Zimbabwe all released statements calling for a free, fair, and credible election. The highest-ranking Republican Senator in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee also issued a statement expressing concern about the potential for electoral fraud.

The SADC Election Observation Mission to Zimbabwe’s Harmonised Elections published a joint preliminary statement on Friday, 25 August. The statement said that the mission had observed a number of irregularities, including the late delivery of ballot papers and voter intimidation. However, the mission said that it was too early to say whether these irregularities had affected the outcome of the election.
