The #ANCYL is holding its 26th National Congress this weekend to elect new leadership. This is a 26th National Congress this weekend, a first since it was last held in 2015. The last time the #ANCYL had a solid political report was with Julius Malema, Fasiha Hassan has just delivered one since 2011.
The ANC Youth League National Congress has started at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg this morning. It’s had been delayed due to the late registration of delegates from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape who had’nt completed their pre-registration process.
Political analyst Dr Zamo Mbandlwa says the factions in the ANCYL will cripple the organisation and the mother body as a whole. Young people attending the conference hope the new leaders will focus on policies to revive the township economy and rural areas. Hassan speaks on the Just energy transition and in particular renewable energy.
Hassan:The UN Security Council is stubbornly untransformed, Young people in Africa must unite and be organized. We need to move away from patronage networks of politics. The upcoming elections in Zimbabwe is an important aspect of our region.
Hassan:We commend the practical stance of the ANC of not being aligned in the Russia and Ukriane war. We mustn’t be naive, today’s Russia Federation is not USSR, NATO must be treated with the contempent it deserves.
Hassan:We must have a sustainable just transition but we won’t abandon coal. We must a sustainable energy mix and build a more climate resilient mix.
