Lesufi calls on Ramaphosa to bring the soldiers out of the barracks

Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi has called upon president Cyril Ramaphosa to bring the soldiers out of their barracks.

This comes after one top of the ongoing siege between illegal gold miners as well as the local police.

Lesufi stated that Gauteng province had fallen under siege from the illegal miners and they soldiers needed to be brought to the party.

Police recovered some heavy weapons from the illegal miners who are always ready to trade bullets with the police.

The illegal mining issue has long been a problem for authorities.

Residents say the miners hide stolen items in the houses, mug passers-by, take drugs and damage municipal property by stealing copper cables, plunging whole neighbourhoods into darkness.

Local ward councillor Jason Mcdowell said residents who had the means were increasing their security measures.

The community is worried, upset and scared. This happens because of a massive increase of vagrants in the area.

They sleep on private property and in business doorways. It is a major security risk, which is being ignored by the SAPS.
