The convener of Action Society South Africa, Ian Cameron has called the suspension of the 8 VIP Protection Unit members a special leave because according to him, they will continue to receive their full payment. Ian Cameron noted that ordinarily, they should have been arrested, but they were only suspended and according to Ian Cameron, the fact that they will continue to receive payment means that they are only on a special leave. He wrote, “All 8 #BlueLightMafia thugs have just been suspended with full pay. So, basically special leave/holiday. Still no arrests by IPID. If it were you or me we would be behind bars already! VIP Protection”. He also lamented that the SANDF has prevented the victims of the VIP Protection unit assault to stopping talking to the press about the situation. Someone wrote, “The fact that they pointed firearms is already an arrest-able offence. We have called for charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, intimidation, and assault to GBH to be investigated”.
Ian Cameron’s allegations that the officers will continue to receive payment has not been substantiated by police. We will continue to call for their arrest! If it were you or me we would be begging for bail… We say, ban the Blue Light Mafia! The controversial VIP Protection Unit Brutality has been the subject of social media discussion for a long time now. Many people are not satisfied with the way the case is being treated.
