While South Africans are grappling around loadshedding, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula delivered some good news. Mbalula says blackouts will be over by the end of the year. He says government is on top of the crisis. Mbalula says the ruling party is prioritising new ideas and other energy plans on how the country could resolve the load-shedding crisis.
We hope what Mbalula is saying is true. Mbalula is reiterating what Ramaphosa said a few weeks ago. The president said that the Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is “overseeing the full and speedy implementation of the Energy Action Plan (EAP)” to tackle load-shedding. Ramaphosa added that the minister is working hard to reduce the severity and frequency of load-shedding immediately and ensure that load-shedding will be “brought to an end in the shortest possible time”.
The country’s energy crisis is dire because it affects the economy and investment and, in many instances, caused a rise in crime. We hope Mbalula is not just exciting citizens by making empty promises. If he lied then ANC is in trouble come 2024
