EFF’s Julius Malema sends warning to DCS about Zuma’s Arrest

South Africa’s Department of Corrections (DCS) has confirmed that it has received representations from relevant parties regarding the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma. The next step is for the National Commissioner, Mr. Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale, to examine all the documents received, the judgment of the Supreme Court of Appeal and the prescription of corrective measures.

This sparked debate, with some calling for Zuma’s immediate release, while others believed he should remain in prison. Julius Sello Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has been very vocal in his criticism of the DCS, accusing them of wanting to “bring back another crisis”.

Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison in July 2021 for contempt of court when he refused to testify before the Zondo Commission, which is investigating corruption during his presidency. He was pardoned on health grounds in September 2021, but the Supreme Court later ruled his release invalid and ordered him to return to prison. Zuma filed an appeal and his case is still pending.

If Zuma is released again, it will cause further unrest in South Africa. His supporters have a history of violence and have vowed to take to the streets if he is returned to prison. This can have a strong impact on the stability of the country.

DCS has a tough decision to make. If they leave Zuma, they are creating more problems and instability in the country. However, if they keep him in prison, they will be seen as in contempt of court and may face legal challenges. It is a decision that will have dire consequences. DCS is facing a difficult situation. There is no easy answer to the question of whether or not Zuma will be released. However, their decision will have a big impact on South Africa.
