EFF unperturbed by NSPCA threats as they focus on elections

The Economic Freedom Fighters have hit back at allegations of animal cruelty stating that they have no time for cheap stakes as they remain focused on next year’s elections.

EFF leader Julius Malema came under heavy criticism from the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) for alleged animal cruelty.

The NSPCA added that they had already opened a criminal case against Malema.

But the EFF issued a statement stating that their focus was sorely on next year’s elections.

“As of now, our complete attention is on establishing our elections machinery ahead of 2024 towards total victory,” said the party’s communications department.

But the NSPCA responded by stating that they are leaving no stones unturned in their quest for justice.

The incident came after Malema was caught on camera intending to slaughter an animal on a farm during the party’s 10th anniversary in July in Magaliesburg.

The party recently celebrated their anniversary and there was a huge attendance.

The NSPCA has also come under heavy criticism from some quarters of society with civil rights groups also fuming.

Slamming the NSPCA action, independent political analyst Sandile Swana said the slaughtering of animals by Jews, Muslims and Africans was similar yet the NSPCA challenges Africans on African soil on exercising their culture with no credible scientific evidence.

It is still not clear if Malema is going to appear in court but he is completely unperturbed by the allegations as he remains steadily focused on the 2024 elections.

University of Pretoria law professor Koos Malan said South Africa had ample room for cultural customs, also relating to animals and their slaughtering.
