Billy Masetlha was a South African intelligence officer. He was the head of the South African National Intelligence Agency before being fired by former president of the Republic of South African and African National Congress President Thabo Mbeki in 2006. Masetlha died on 14 May 2023, at the age of 68.
Today family and friends including comrades of Billy Masetlha are gathered to pay their last respect.
The funeral service of the late Ambassador to Algeria, Billy Masetlha is under way at the Bryanston Methodist Church, north of Johannesburg.
The African National Congress Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said that, “We have come to remember and honour a selfless leader who gave his youthful life to the service of his country and of his people.”
Gauteng ANC PEC member Lebogang Maile says the late Billy Masetlha will always be remembered for his dedication to the fight against apartheid.
May his soul rest in peace and I hope his family find the necessary strength to move on.
