ANC SG ‘slammed’ For Defending White Farmers over Malema’s controversial SONG

This week has been marred by warnings of a complete breakdown of relations between black people and white farmers, fueled by EFF leader Julius Malema’s rendition of the old struggle song “kill the boer, kill the farmer.”

Malema was criticised by large segments of society, with many suggesting he was sowing the seeds of violence against white farmers, who have long claimed that they are the victims of ‘genocide’.

Despite these widespread condemnations, some have argued that the song was innocuous and that it was primarily sung during the struggle.

Meanwhile, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, who had remained silent on the topic, took to Twitter this evening to criticise the song, stating that the ANC does not allow racial mobilisation and tribalism, and that the song must receive contempt it deserves.

“Ethnicity and tribalism are detested by our movement and will not be tolerated. So, we not only need to frown upon these, but we must actively fight against whoever brings them to the fore. ANC was formed to fight against such, and we will continue. Our envisaged national democratic society must be a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic, and prosperous state,” Mbalula said.

Some of those who believed Malema was not improper to sing such a song came out guns blazing on Mbalula, accusing him of actively delaying the revolution.

In fact, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said Mbalula’s statement was strange since he didn’t know what he was saying.

It is clear that people are looking at the song and its references from different perspectives, and although the court previously ruled that the song was just a cultural expression, it remains to be seen if ever there will be a consensus on whether it still has a place in modern society or it must be consigned to the archives for historical purposes.
