A woman from Oxford in Verulam, KwaZulu Natal has raised concerns and sadness for her daughter who is 19 years old, who is suspected of being raped by a man known to the family, after luring her to appear in a soap opera, airing on SABC 1 Uzalo. The victim’s family has been ostracized for their protection. The victim’s mother, who cannot be named to protect her daughter, told ILANGA that she will tell the crows about what happened to her child.
“The child left in the afternoon on May 1 to help a relative. On the same day, I received a call from a relative, informing us that the child is missing. “I was surprised by that, we started calling the child, but we couldn’t find her on her phone. Until early Monday morning, she sent a message saying, ‘I’m not well mom, I’m sorry, I asked where she was, she said she went with the suspect who called him by name, from the Durban Talent Agency, to shoot episodes that will appear in the show Uzalo. We thought she will be safe there because we know the suspect as a family.
“When the sun was setting on Monday, she came crawling, crying, not wanting to look me in the eyes, I thought she was drunk. I gave her a chance and she fell asleep. When she woke up in the afternoon, I saw her body shaking, crying, and she said she wanted to talk to her grandmother, who is a relative. She asked that relative to be taken to the hospital for examination. At the hospital, she was vomiting and losing strength, and finally she said that she was taken by the suspect and told them to shoot” the victim’s mother said.
She says that when the victim explained, she said that she did not know what happened, and the suspect woke up after providing breakfast. “When they left home, they passed by another home of the suspect where there was a party, then they went to Kwa Mashu. when Mashu arrived, (the suspect) came and told her (the child) that because it was late and they were going to shoot the next day, she should sleep there. “She says that’s where he gave her some drink, she didn’t know what happened after that as she woke up in the morning after the suspect had provided her with breakfast, the sad thing is that until now the child has not told me what happened, she even filed a case of rape in Ntuzuma.
“The suspect’s family came here, they said they will apologize for what happened. I won’t be able to rest until the truth comes out,” said the victim’s mother. Kwa-Zulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said there is an open case. “The police in Ntuzama opened a case of rape of a woman by a person known to the family. The arrested suspect appeared in Ntuzuma Court on Monday, and is expected to appear again soon. The case was then transferred to Nanda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses, for investigation
