Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa today alleged that he warned Sirisia MP John Waluke after they were allegedly summoned to a night meeting by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking today during the burial ceremony of Mzee Jackson Waluke (the father to MP John Waluke), the vocal UDA allied MP narrated how Uhuru Kenyatta attempted to convince him to change his loyalty to Azimio ahead of the 2022 election.
He narrated that after the former President contacted him, he told Uhuru that he could not attend a meeting if MP Waluke was not invited. Barasa claimed that they were good friends with the MP and thus the reason why he wanted the MP to also attend the meeting.
Hon. Barasa said that the meeting was scheduled to take place at State House, Nairobi. He said that he arrived at around 11 PM at night and found Hon. Waluke and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati already waiting at the venue.
He claimed that they waited for few minutes before the former President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived.
“Mimi nikifika State House. Ilikuwa saa Tano ya usiku na nilikuta John Waluke na Governor Wangamati. Tulikaa kidogo Uhuru akaingia (I arrived at State House. It was around 11PM at night. We sat there for a while and then Uhuru arrived),” Barasa narrated.
The MP claimed that it was after Uhuru’s arrival that he warned MP John Waluke, who was facing graft charges at the court and was expecting Uhuru to help him in clearing the case.
Barasa claimed that he told Waluke that he should not trust Uhuru, but Waluke was reluctant to listen to him and had hopes that Uhuru would help him come clean on the case. He claimed that Waluke told him that Uhuru had promised to throw away his case.
“Niliambia Waluke, ‘Uhuru ndio atakufunga, Mimi siamini huyu mtu’ (I told Waluke that ‘Uhuru is the one who will jail you, I don’t trust this person’),” Barasa said.
