A section of netizens have been sharing a video clip of president William Ruto across social media. In the video, the president can be heard castigating the former government over the increase of taxes. Ruto noted that the the increase of taxes will hurt the country’s economy thus creating a harsh economy to Kenyans.
“This people don’t understand the damage they are doing to the people and the econonomy of Kenya, kwa hii taxes wanaongeza usiku na Mchana ( with this taxes they are increasing day and night),” president Ruto could be heard saying.
In a turn of events, president Ruto’s government has now proposed for an increase in taxes to commodities and salaries. This contradicts president Ruto’s promise that he made to Kenyans during the campaign period prior to the 2022 general elections.
The video comes at a time that the Kenya Kwanza government has released their proposed bill of the 2023/2024 finance budget. A section of netizens have been raising questions over the details of the proposed budget. A number of Kenyans have rejected the proposed bill which focuses on the introduction of new salary deductions which includes the 3% housing funds deductions.
