Police hunt hammer-wielding Pokemon card thieves on crime spree

Police are on the hunt for a couple of hammer-wielding thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon cards from two stores.

With the rise of Pokemon card collecting, Pokemon crimes have become increasingly common.

We’ve seen high-speed police chases, collectors robbed at gun point, and fights break out over rare Pokemon cards.

Now, hammer-wielding thugs have taken the Pokemon community by storm after breaking into a couple of stores.

Thieves hit Michigan game stores for Pokemon cards

On May 16, two masked crooks dressed in black broke into RIW Hobbies & Gaming in Livonia, Michigan.

At 5AM, security cameras captured footage of the duo smashing display cases and grabbing thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon cards that they put in sacks.

The hammer gang smashed up a display case.

The store’s owner, Pam Willoughby, was appalled when she opened up later that morning and saw the shop’s state.

“When I actually watched them just standing in the building by themselves swinging a hammer, it was a little unnerving — it was an invasion,” she told news outlet WXYZ, adding that between the cost of the cards and repairs, it would cost the store $12,000.

The duo didn’t get every card, though. Willoughby remarked how the two carelessly “dropped a Charizard on the way out the door.”

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only location the Team Rocket-inspired crew hit, as, just four days later, a hammer-wielding individual in similar attire broke into Eternal Games.

The thieves hit Eternal Games a few days later.

This time, the thief leapt over a display case, put cards into a sack, and fled the scene.

Eternal Games assistant manager Dakota Olszewski claimed the thief stole $3,500 worth of rare singles.

The hunt is now on for these two suspects and this is just the latest in a long line of Pokemon card crimes over the years.

In 2022, a man had his $500,000 collection stolen from his waterfront property and has still yet to get his collectibles back.
