A new mechanic called Hyper Training is being added to Pokemon Go, and it will help trainers power up their most beloved creatures using the iconic Gold Bottle Caps from the mainline games.
Hyper Training was introduced to the franchise along with regular and Gold Bottle Caps in Gen 7’s games, Pokemon Sun & Moon. There, players could increase one or more Pokemon IVs as long as they had reached Level 100 and had the resources to do so.
However, once the mechanic hits Pokemon Go, it will work a little bit differently, as it will have to adapt to Niantic’s game. So, here’s all you need to know about Hyper Training and Gold Bottle Caps to make your team unstoppable.
What is Hyper Training in Pokemon Go?
In Pokemon Go, Hyper Training consists of increasing a Pokemon’s HP, Attack, and Defense stats by using Gold Bottle Caps.
Unlike the mainline titles, where regular Bottle Caps could be used to increase one IV, in Niantic’s mobile game, players only have access to Gold Bottle Caps, which allow them to work on all stats at once.
But that’s not all. The Gold Bottle Cap is used to start Hyper Training. Then, players must complete all the tasks in the training for the Pokemon IVs to be increased.
Hyper Training rules & restrictions
- A Pokemon needs to be at least a Good Buddy – or higher – if a player wants to toggle with its IVs.
- Shadow Pokemon cannot be Hyper Trained.
How to get Gold Bottle Caps
The Gold Bottle Cap is an extremely rare new item used to kick off Hyper Training. It is a one-time use that, as of now, can only be acquired by completing the Go Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered.
Gold Bottle Caps obtained from the Go Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered will expire on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 11:59 PM local time, so you have to use them before then.
How to Hyper Train
Once you have your Gold Bottle Cap and a Pokemon with the Good Buddy status and improveable IVs, you must select which stats you want to train and how high you want them to go.
Then, you’ll be given a list of tasks you must complete to increase each of those stats by one. The type of task will be tied to the stat you want to improve, and the result will affect the Pokemon’s CP, too.
Once you use your Gold Bottle Cap, you’ll have exactly one year (365 days) to complete the training for that particular Pokemon.
Training Tasks
To increase each stat, you will have to follow a series of tasks:
- Attack: Battle alongside your trainee while they’re set as your Buddy.
- Defense: Strengthen your bond with your Buddy Pokemon trainee by playing, exploring, and catching creatures.
- HP: Spin PokeStops alongside your trainee while it is set as your Buddy. Earn Candy and go on adventures.
Ancients Recovered event
The already announced Ancients Recovered event will run ahead of the Go Fest Global, from June 23, 2025, until June 27, 2025.
However, its Go Pass and Go Pass Deluxe will be available until June 29, 2025, giving players a couple more days.
Go Pass & Go Pass Deluxe
The Go Pass is a free, limited-time progression track available during specific periods. By completing challenges and collecting Go Points, players can increase their rank to earn rewards.
The Go Pass Deluxe is basically the same, but with upgraded rewards and powerful event bonuses. However, it has a cost.
Those who want to access the Go Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered to get a Gold Bottle Cap must purchase it for $19.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency).
This higher tier will also include Zacian and Zamazenta Mask avatar items, Incense, a Lucky Egg, Lure Modules, and more.
