What Happened
Early this morning, a trail runner contacted Brad Nathanson to report discovering Simon’s body while running in Giba Gorge. Brad was able to guide Simon’s family to the location.
It has been confirmed that there was no foul play involved in Simon’s death.
A Disturbing Encounter
On Monday, 13 January 2025, the same trail runner recalled seeing Simon at the exact spot where his body was found today. She noticed that Simon appeared out of sorts and took a moment to speak with him. Simon mentioned that he was “just out walking,” but something about the encounter stayed with her.
A Community Mourns
Brad Nathanson reflected on the overwhelming outpouring of concern during the search:
> “In my 45-year career, I have never seen so many people asking me to look for one missing person. It’s clear Simon was deeply loved and cared for by many.”
This loss is felt across the community, a tragedy that seems both senseless and deeply heartbreaking.
