Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Dr Alulutho Mazwi has passed away as he collapsed after his supervisor refused to give him leave despite being sick at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital.
Medical Interns and the Mother of Dr Alulutho Mazwi are hoping that stringent action will be taken after the Medical Intern at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital’s Pediatric ward died whilst on duty on Monday (12 May 2025). Dr Mazwi had been diagnosed with diabetes and had over the week become acutely ill, resulting to him collapsing twice on duty, before taking sick leave in an attempt to recover
Whilst away, there was no improvement in his condition, he was allegedly threatened by a supervisor to return to work, regardless of his deteriorating health and even despite pleading for more days off
During the day whilst trying his best to carry out his duties, his colleagues say Dr Mazwi had been barely coping, appeared to be physically worn out and had also lost weight… he later collapsed and was declared dead on the spot
Interns and other medical staff at the hospital are said to be enduring blatant abuse on a daily basis, by management. It is apparently worst in the pediatric ward. Interns have to rotate each department for 3 months before officially completing their inservice training. The mistreatment has been allegedly going on for years. The hostility had gotten to a point that staff discourage interns who wish to get their inservice training at this hospital
Dr Mazwi was supposed to be admitted to hospital for Medical treatment on Monday, the day he passed away, but had pushed himself to go to work following the alleged threats, that he would have to repeat rotation
This has also sparked allegations of racism in the facility, as some believe (3) supervisors allegedly mistreat black staff. Apparently staff is also denied bereavement leave after losing loved ones
