The car’s owner has been arrested. Authorities are now searching for two individuals captured in images: Fezile Ngubane and Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhanya.
For two hours, slain Olorato Mongale’s friends had driven around, trying to find her after her phone’s location indicated that she was in a dangerous place.
Mongale, who was a postgraduate student in Johannesburg, had earlier shared her location and texted her friend, Thato Molongoana, informing her that she was going on a date with a man known only as “John”.
She had met the man at a mall in Bloemfontein, Free State, last Tuesday, and following days of communication, they arranged to go on a date. The man told her he’d come to Johannesburg
Hours before the man picked her up from her place, she texted her friend, telling her that she was getting ready to go meet him. Later that day, Mongale’s body was found abandoned in Lombardy outside Alexandra, northern Joburg.
“On Sunday morning, we spoke and she told me that he [date] is going to pick her up and she told me that I should always check her location using Find My iPhone. At about 2:40pm, she told me that she was leaving her place,” said Molongoana.
Molongoana said an hour later, she realised that Mongale’s phone location was in a dodgy place.
