Numerous Nintendo fans have reported that their Switch 2 pre-orders have been cancelled just days before the console’s release.
The Switch 2 is Nintendo’s first console launch in over eight years. While pre-release availability hasn’t proven to be as scarce as PlayStation 5 back in 2020, stock has still been somewhat difficult for consumers to source.
Despite putting strict anti-scalping measures in place, listings for the hybrid console have still appeared on sites like eBay with massively inflated price tags.
But even some early adopters who did manage to secure a pre-order ahead of the big day have now been told that their orders have been cancelled.
Numerous fans reported having had their pre-orders cancelled by major US retailers.
Pre-orders cancelled
As of writing on June 1, the Switch subreddit has been inundated with posts from users sharing screenshots of their Switch 2 pre-orders being cancelled.
“Ended up as one of the fallen. Called immediately and they said they’re cancelling a ton of orders until the July restock,” one affected individual said, adding, “Got $25 credit so at least there’s that. Good luck to everyone else.”
“Walmart putting you on BLAST, this is absolutely pathetic,” another said. “I pre-ordered my stuff the MINUTE it became available. And my stuff is cancelled?,” they continued.
But Walmart customers weren’t the only ones affected. Posts from users who had pre-ordered with Target were also present. Cancellation reports spanned a 10-day period, with fresh posts still coming in as of June 1. None of the screenshots provided a detailed reason for the pre-order cancellations.
And the issue isn’t confined to the US, either. On May 29, UK retailer Game issued a statement apologizing for a wave of cancellations, stating that they were “working hard to reinstate as many pre-orders as possible.”
