Tope Alabi, a well-known gospel performer in Nigeria, has said that she won’t comment on the issue surrounding her trending video, which has been making rounds on social media.
The artist could be heard singing in Yoruba in the viral video. The Grammy-winning musician was singing in the Ifa believers’ language of greeting, “Aboru boye.”
The lyrics “abiye ni mi, Oruko mi ni yen” were sung by the vocalist. Mo de bo, Mo ru, Mo ye. (My name is I Am A Sacrifice. My name means “I am a sacrifice accepted by God”).
Since then, the phrase Aboru Aboye, which is often used by Ifa believers to honor the deity, has gained a lot of attention on social media.
In an exclusive phone interview with our correspondent, Alabi, who is now in the United States for her “Praise The Almighty Concert, declined to comment on the matter, claiming that The PUNCH had previously published stories about the “Aboru boye” scandal.
