Rema hit single, Calm ‘Down’ reaches 1bn streams on Spotify

Spotify, a global online streaming platform, says Nigeria’s fast-rising star, Rema, has achieved a remarkable milestone with his hit single, ” Calm Down,” reaching one billion streams on its platform.

Nigeria News Agency reports. This information was made public in a statement on Sunday by Victor Okpala, Spotify’s Artiste and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa.

Okpala claims that this is a resounding endorsement of Rema’s talent and all-encompassing appeal.

He claimed that Rema was one of the top 10 most streamed Afrobeats artists on Spotify, according to data published as part of the platform’s ‘Journey to a Billion Streams’ programme.

He claimed that the song’s achievement of this milestone was not unexpected.

“With his popular song Calm Down, starring Selena Gomez, hitting one billion listens on Spotify, Rema has accomplished a spectacular milestone. This is the first tune featuring African artists to be inducted into Spotify’s Billions Club.

“The accomplishment not only underlines Rema’s expanding impact in the music business, but it also emphasizes the value of musical fusion that crosses cultural boundaries in the connected world of today.

“Rema, a Nigerian artist, collaborated with Selena Gomez, an American artist, on a remix that went viral.

This significant achievement for Rema is a turning point for both her as an artist and for the whole Afrobeats scene.

We are thrilled to continue promoting the genre at Spotify because “it is clear that the genre is making a significant impact and gaining substantial influence on the global music stage,” he said.

Because of its appealing blend of afrobeats rhythms and afro-fusion melodies, Rema’s distinctive and soulful voice, and the surprising inclusion of Selena Gomez on an Afrobeats song, “Calm Down” rapidly became a favorite around the world, according to Okpala.

He claimed that the song’s creation combined modern and traditional components, demonstrating how African music is developing and changing.

He believes that reaching the billion-stream mark on Spotify is no minor accomplishment since it shows how well-liked “Calm Down” is and how Rema is able to make music that connects with listeners from all walks of life.

The United States, India, Mexico, Brazil, and the United Kingdom were the countries where the song received the most streams, he said, demonstrating how Rema’s distinctive sound has driven him to the top of the world music scene.

Data reveals that Calm Down has been added to over a million Spotify playlists, proving that the song’s catchy chorus and sympathetic lyrics have made it a go-to hit for both dancefloors and personal playlists.

“This moment represents the ability of music to cross cultural and geographic boundaries and acts as a light for aspiring musicians to make real, avant-garde music that connects with listeners all over the world.

Rema, he continued, “cements his place as a true musical trailblazer with this milestone and prepares the way for an exciting new chapter in his career.”

Rema’s response was, “It is a blessing. It is a significant victory for the culture as well as for myself, my team, and my family.

“I’m incredibly excited, and I’m also really proud of the fans for returning to the song and adding people to it. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, especially the DJs.
