Nigerian skit maker, Michael Nasiru Lawal, known as Nasboi, has revealed that he started creating comedy skits with the intention of catching the attention of popular afrobeat singer, Davido, to showcase his music talent.
In a recent meeting with one of his fans, which he shared on his official Instagram page, Nasboi explained that his initial goal was not to pursue a career in skits, but rather to get noticed by Davido. Although he succeeded in getting Davido’s attention, Nasboi decided to embrace the acceptance and fame he gained from his skits. However, this led people to perceive him mainly as a funny person. To prevent being pigeonholed, he began introducing more characters in his comedy skits, ensuring he didn’t lose sight of his music aspirations.

Nasboi stated, “I started making skits not because I wanted to become a skit maker, but because I wanted to get Davido’s attention. I achieved that, but then everyone started seeing me as just a funny guy. I couldn’t do anything else, not even music. Since everyone saw me as a funny guy, I decided to lean into it and add more characters so I wouldn’t disappear.”
