Daniel Effiong, a Nigerian actor and film director, has recounted how his father, Comrade Moses Effiong, escaped the death penalty and a life sentence in prison.
Daniel revealed this in a Saturday interview with media personality Nancy Isime on The Nancy Isime Show.
During the conversation, the actor was asked how he dealt with their family’s issues while still performing well in his profession.
“I was born into a military family in Jaji, Kaduna, and there was a coup to overthrow the government at that time under Ibrahim Babangida,” he explained.
“A neighbour very close to us who is part of the coup’s mastermind wanted my father to go down with him.” After they were all apprehended and shot, an officer went forward and called out three officers, including my father, from a list to be set aside and condemned to life imprisonment.
“He served three years in prison before Buhari’s administration officially released him in 2020, but during that time, my mother would travel from Benin to Kano Central Prison to see him, and she eventually died in an accident.”
