‘Your power has achieved lots for Kenya’ – Kivutha Kibwana tells Gen Z protesters, urges them to soldier on

Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has encouraged the youths leading the anti-government protests to keep up the struggle and soldier on.

In a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the former county head stated that the Gen Zs who are at the centre of the demos which morphed from the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests should unite with the millennials of the country and have a unified dialogue hosted by their key X space hosts.

He also urged the aforementioned groups not to be downcast as struggle requires multiple strategies.

“The Gen Zs and their cousins the Millennials need a unified dialogue among themselves hosted by their key X space hosts. Avoid fragmentation. Defence CS called you ‘Vital Forces’. Your power has achieved lots for Kenya. Don’t be downcast. Struggles require multiple strategies,” he wrote.

The latest comes amid debate over the protests which seek the resignation of President William Ruto over bad governance.

A section issued demands to the Head of State failure to which the deadly protests would continue.

Bowing to pressure from the young Kenyans, President Ruto on Friday, July 5, 2024,  announced plans to implement a raft of measures to curb overspending of public funds in his administration.

Among the austerity measures announced by the president include, reducing the number of government advisors by 50 per cent, suspension of the hiring of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs), the dissolution of 47 state corporations and removal of budgets for the offices of the First Lady and Second Lady among others.
