Wednesday blackout to affect 6 counties

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled blackout on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, affecting various areas in six counties.

The utility company cited routine network maintenance as the reason for the planned interruption.

In the Nairobi region, residents of Golfcourse and Kibera areas will experience the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The specific areas affected include Malibu Court in Madaraka, Kasneb Towers, Geomaps, parts of Kenyatta Hospital, KEMRI Kenyatta, Kenyatta Hospital Staff Quarters, Madina Centre Mosque, Mbaruk Road, Kanjaro Road, Mosiro Road, Sunview Estate, Golf Course Estate, Ngumo Estate, Kibera AMREF, Silanga, Lini Saba, and adjacent customers.

Elgeyo Marakwet County will see an interruption in power at Katalel Market, Chebonet Secondary School, Kimuchi Safaricom Tower, Salaba Academy, Kipsoen TVC, Sergoit Secondary School, Sergoit Market, Kiplus Market, Chepkitony Primary, and nearby areas from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Homa Bay County, the areas of Kandiege, Kanyamfwa, and Andhiro will experience a blackout from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Affected locations include Samanga, Nyangweso, Kadel, Kandiege, Kanyamfwa, Kodula, Kajimo, Kanyamfwa, Oriwo, Olare, Janairo, Kobila, Adhiro, Lieta, Kamwala, Nyangau, Ajigo, Gogo, Masogo, Ouru, Raluowa, and adjacent customers.

Embu County residents in Machanga, Ngiori, and Makima will also face a power outage from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The specific areas affected include Machanga, Ngungu, Ngiori Iriamurai, Kathuri, Karuki, Tenrimakima, Ngecha, Airtel Ngiori, Mbondoni, Mwanyani Mulukusi, Mwanjo, Ndune, Iriamurai Mission, Jaganath, Kianjiru Ridge, Thiba Farm, Mashamba, and surrounding areas.

In Nyeri County, two areas will be affected. Gatondo and Itundu will have a power outage from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, impacting Gatondo Market, Gatondo Secondary School, Muthuthi-Ini TBC, Kiawaiguru TBC, Mutito TBC, Kariki TBC, Gitema-Ini TBC, Itundu Market, Kiarage TBC, Kangiri TBC, Gachuguina TBC, and adjacent customers. Additionally, Karichen and Gatuamba will experience the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Milimani Primary, Milimani Dairy, Karichen, Baraka Estate, Breadgate, Njumbi Farm, Lusoi Resort, Kings Medical, Kinwara Holdings, Gatuamba, Simba Fresh, Aguthi Primary, Msafiri, Lusoi, and nearby areas.

Finally, in Kwale County, areas including Mwangwei and Lungalunga will experience an outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The affected locations are Mshiu, Mwangwei, Majoreni, Mrima, Vanga, Horohoro, Mwangulu, and surrounding customers.
