Suspect in Ksh500k hotel heist arrested aboard Probox on Isiolo-Marsabit highway

Police have recovered part of a Ksh500,000 cash which was stolen from a hotel in Wamba, Samburu County and arrested the suspect while he was going in hiding.

The National Police Service (NPS) in a statement on Monday night April 1, 2024, said the suspect Felix Ayiera was arrested following a multi-agency operation.

“NPS in collaboration with other security agencies arrested one Felix Ayiera, a suspect in a theft case of Ksh500,000 that was reported at Wamba Police Station yesterday,” police said in a statement.

Police said the suspect was travelling on a Toyota Probox along the Isiolo-Marsabit highway at the time of his arrest.

The suspect had only spent Ksh2,650 from the Ksh500,000 that was stolen from a hotel in Wamba.

Police recovered Ksh497,350 that the suspect had with him at the time of his arrest.

“The culprit who was aboard a Probox motor vehicle had Ksh497,350 at the time of his arrest at Kalama along the Isiolo-Marsabit Highway,” police said.

The suspect was nabbed after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Samburu East launched an investigation after the proprietor of the fast food in Wamba reported the theft to police.

“DCI Samburu East launched an investigation into the matter following a report made on the 31/2024 night by a female proprietor of a fast foods hotel in Wamba that she lost Ksh500,000 at her business premises and the main suspect, one Felix had gone missing and his phone switched off,” police said.

Migori

In another separate incident, police in Migori arrested a suspect who was on their wanted list.

Victor Lenoc Ojwang from Rapogi was wanted by the Uriri Police Station for the offence of stealing.

Police recovered a pistol when they arrested the suspect.

“NPS Officers from Rapogi Police Post arrested one suspect namely Victor Lenoc Ojwang from Rapogi who was wanted by Uriri Police Station for the offence of stealing and upon search, they recovered a pistol made Gerstenberge and Eberwein German Model 6. The suspect is being held at Uriri Police Station awaiting arraignment in court,” police said.
