His criminal activities did not go unpunished after he was handed a jail sentence in 2013 over a 2011 robbery with violence incident against his foster father, William Bett.

It is now one decade behind the bars for David Bett, the adopted son of former Nominated MP and assistant minister, Betty Njeri Tett.

In a December 2011 incident at their home in Karen, David is said to have participated in a robbery with violence incident that saw two of his accomplices shot dead by police.

David would be find himself as the main suspect in the incident that saw his father lose around Kshs. 157,000 worth of valuables.

And after two years of trial, the magistrate who handled the case delivered his verdict. It was a harsh ruling for David after being referred to the hangman.

But convinced that the ruling on his case was harsh, he appealed the judgment in the High Court. To him, his parents had “fixed him”. And so, in 2020, the High Court delivered another ruling on his appeal.

Somehow, it was a fair judgment as compared to the previous one which had condemned him to death.

In the new ruling, David was given a reprieve after the High Court handed him a 15- year jail sentence for each of the two accounts. The sentences were to run concurrently.

But as David is almost through serving his jail sentence, his mother, Betty, remains active in politics. In 2022, she unsuccessfully ran for the Westlands MP seat after losing to the incumbent, Tim Wanyonyi of ODM.
