On Friday, June 30, President William Ruto launched ‘Gava Mkononi’ initiative at KICC.
During the launch, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Alfred Mutua, announced that his ministry had come up with an initiative dubbed ‘Kazi Majuu’.
According to Mutua, the initiative will not only help Kenyans secure jobs abroad but also cushion them against fraudsters and unscrupulous recruitment agencies.
However, serious doubts were cast on the integrity of the ‘Kazi Majuu’ initiative after CS Mutua fronted Judy Chepchirchir as the face of the initiative. Judy Jepchirchir herself is an alleged fraudster who is under investigations for scamming youths with nonexistent jobs through her First Choice Recruitment Agency.
In early June, this year, IG Japheth Koome appeared before a senate committee where he explained that more than 5,000 Eldoret youths had reported being scammed by First Choice Recruitment Agency.
Koome revealed that the police are still investigating the recruitment agency co-owned by Judy Chepchirchir and another person, Faith Waringa Gichuhi.
Ms. Jepchirchir’s inclusion in the ‘Kazi Majuu’ program attracted attention and criticism from Kenyans led by activist Boniface Mwangi.
