“The organising committee of the Global Peace and Leadership Conference (GPLC) Africa 2024 regrets to announce the cancellation of the official opening ceremony that was originally scheduled for 10.00 AM, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi,” the statement read in part.

The decision was reached after lengthy discussions by the top leadership of the convening partners of GPLC Africa 2024. However, GPLC noted that it remains committed to fostering dialogue and promoting peace.

“We mourn those who have died, pray for a full recovery for those who were injured, and hope for healing for this nation that it can find a way forward towards a future that benefits all its people. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, speakers, and partners who have supported the GPLC Africa 2024,” added the statement.

This comes as the organising committee of the Nyanza International Investment Conference also announced a decision to postpone the conference until a later date.

The unrest began as a response to the government’s proposed tax hikes in the Finance Bill 2024, which have faced widespread opposition from the Kenyan populace.

The situation remains tense as Kenyans and the international community watch closely to see how the government will respond to the protesters’ demands and the ongoing crisis.
