Ruto To Fund Completion Of Church Despite Banning Govt Officers From Harambees [VIDEO]

President Ruto stated that he would take part in the building of the church, questioning his own directive

President William Ruto on Sunday, July 14 promised to financially contribute towards the completion of the construction of the AIPCA church in Ndogino, Nyandarua County, despite an earlier directive banning state officers from participating in Harambees.

Speaking at the church, President Ruto stated that he would take part in the building of the church, questioning his own directive which came in response to demands for harambees to be banned even in places of worship.

“There are some people who have really pushed us not to do harambees in church, we have been questioning how the church will be built,” stated Ruto.

The Head of State further instructed his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua to consult with the church leaders and for accounts to be audited to determine the balance, which he vowed he would personally clear by way of cutting a cheque to the church.

“I see that you have pushed the building of this church, the part that is yet to be completed I will cater to it,” stated Ruto.

“Gachagua organise with the Priest, account for how much it will be and I will write you a cheque.”

Over the course of his address, Ruto told Kenyans that it was ultimately up to them to decide the way forward in terms of politicians gracing church services.

Since the anti-Finance Bill protests began, politicians have been barred from speaking in the middle of church services to uphold the sanctity of the places of worship. The ban also extended to harambees and fundraisers by state officers.

He made the remarks ahead of the public participation to be held for the Public Fundraising Appeals Bill which was announced on July 11.

According to Ruto, the electorate would decide on what they believed was ideal for their leaders to do.

However, he stated that he agreed with the proposal to regulate the conduct of politicians and avoid the Church from being a conduit of wealth amassed in corruption dealings.

This donation ironically comes after he banned all state officers including those serving as officers in commissions such as the the Public Service Commission (PSC), Parliamentary Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and National Police Service Commission (NPSC) from participating in harambees.

The commissions, in collaboration with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), will establish an institutional framework to monitor compliance with this new government policy.
