Ruto Snatches Gachagua Some Powers- Taifa Leo.

The president of the republic of Kenya William Samoei Ruto started his tour of mount Kenya region on Saturday with assurances that he will fulfill the pre-election pledges.

In a move aimed at protecting his turf, the head of state announced on Sunday that he will personally deal with cartels that have dominated the coffee sector for years.

It’s worth noting that the deputy president Rigathi Gachagwa has been at the forefront fighting the coffee cartels on the restive region, that overwhelmingly voted for united democratic alliance presidential candidate in last year’s Presidential election.

The latest move by the president is seen as downsizing his Deputy’s powers in the fight against coffee barons.

This comes barely a week after the head of state decried of incompetence of some of his cabinet secretaries.

The head of state last week lamented that some cabinet secretaries and principal secretaries don’t know what is happening in their departments, warning that it would not be business as usual for such officers.

“I have had a heart-to-heart with my Cabinet, and I want to do the same with Principal Secretaries down to directors. It will not be business as usual.

He added “I have made a commitment to Kenyans that there will be no money to steal; there is only money to deliver on government programmes, projects and aspirations of the people of Kenya”.

However, critics of the president have always accused him of micromanaging the departments and ministries instead of letting the officers serve with freedom.
