Ruto Orders DCI, Police To Probe Mukuru Killings & Arrest Perpetrators

Ruto instructed the DCI and the police to work together to establish the circumstances that led to the shocking discovery on Friday.

President William Ruto has issued instructions to, among them, Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to immediately investigate the deaths of over nine Kenyans whose bodies were discovered at an abandoned quarry in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi.

Ruto, who spoke on Saturday, July 13 following a tree-planting exercise at Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet County, revealed that the government was informed of the horrific incident and that investigations had begun.

In his directive, Ruto instructed the DCI and the police to work together to establish the circumstances that led to the shocking discovery on Friday.

“In Nairobi, about 9 bodies have been found and all of them are female. The government is still investigating the matter,” Ruto revealed.

“I have directed the police and all those involved including the DCI and homicide that they investigate what happened.”

The Head of State further called on law enforcement agencies to expedite the matter and bring those responsible for it to book.

According to him, the perpetrators had violated the laws of the Constitution as well as the human rights of any country and that the government would do everything necessary to arrest the perpetrators involved in the gruesome murder, with a majority of the bodies found reported to be female.

“Those who were involved in the death of those kids in Kware, Nairobi have to pay for it. They must be found and action taken against them because killing a Kenyan in whatever manner is an offence under the Kenyan Constitution and it is against the human rights of any nation,” Ruto stated.

“Those who are charged with investigating the matter witnessed in Kware where many Kenyans including young women must be found, that process must be expedited and the truth must be found so that those who are involved in this heinous act must be punished and must be taken to court and the law must be applied to its fullest extent.”

Ruto’s directive came a day after DCI launched investigations into the matter. In their probe, the detectives on Friday hinted at a chilling similar mode of killing for the deceased, possibly pointing to a mass femicide that was carried out before the bodies were dumped in the river.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin revealed that “The bodies have been transferred to the City Mortuary, where they await post-mortem examinations to confirm our suspicions and positively identify the victims.”

The uniform manner in which the bodies were wrapped and disposed of suggests that these heinous acts may be the work of the same perpetrators.

Speculation is rife regarding the motive of the killings, with fears that this could be the work of a serial killer or a criminal syndicate while others suggest that this could be a more sinister, organised criminal effort to dispose of the bodies in a manner that would delay discovery and identification.
