The former top government officials who worked under former presidents late Mwai Kibaki and his successor Uhuru Kenyatta have thrown their weight behind president William Samoei Ruto.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the former head of civil service and secretary to cabinet Francis Muthaura and ex-education cabinet secretary Francis Kaimenyi defended the president saying he is rightfully in office after winning last year’s Presidential election.
He lashed out at the opposition for refusing to recognize president William Samoei Ruto’s presidency saying Ruto was constitutionally elected and therefore is in Office legally.
On the Issue of allowing some government officials to attend cabinet meetings, Kaimenyi defended the president saying it’s not the first time because even the former president Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta allowed jubilee alliance secretary general Raphael Tuju to attend cabinet meetings.
“The president is not reinventing the wheel, if the president has seen it wise to have the four assist him, there is no problem. Even president Uhuru allowed Raphael Tuju to sit in the cabinet”, Kaimenyi told citizen TV.
This comes at a time When the president’s decision to allow economist David Ndii, UDA secretary general cleophas malala, National Security advisor Monica Juma and women rights advisor Harriet Chiggai attend cabinet meetings has elicited a lot of debate.
According to critics, the president is in violation of the constitution which states that the cabinet is only Composed of him as the head of State, his deputy, attorney general and at least 14 cabinet secretaries and a maximum of 22.
