President William Ruto has made a sudden U-turn on how police officers handled protesters during the recent demonstration.
Ruto now agrees with Azimio’s concern on police brutality declaring that he will not allow it to happen again.
In a report via NTV, President Ruto spoke tough on police excesses and brutality taking a firm stand committing to ensure that the country does not slip back into what he calls an era of impunity and extrajudicial acts.
Earlier, Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua had dismissed claims that police were using excessive force. He went ahead saying they were provoked by protesters
On Jully 21, President Ruto dismissed claims of police excesses in the wake of reports of rights violations during anti-government protests called by the opposition Azimio alliance.
Speaking during a prize giving event at Muranga High School, Ruto called on the law enforcement agencies to be firm in dealing with protesters acting with impunity.
“ Criminals must be dealt with firmly, decisively and make sure that we respect the rule of law and we don’t encourage impunity of any nature,” he asserted
