After the parliament passed the Finance Bill 2023 and president William Ruto signed to make it law, the Busia Senator headed to the court with an aim of suspending the Finance Act 2023. This bill was to allow the government to collect more taxes from Kenyans and prevent too much borrowing from more developed countries.
After the Busia Senator, Okiya Omtatah, headed to court, the Finance Act 2023 was suspended where by ERPRA refused to obey the court ruling increasing fuel VAT to 16%. The Chief Justice, Martha Koome, selected a panel of 3 judges who will listen and determine the case before them.
