The government has for now decided not to pursue those who allegedly engaged in a looting spree days before the 2022 general elections, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

The DP said those who allegedly stole billions during the regime of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, including suspects in the Ksh.6 billion Telkom Kenya buyout scandal, are yet to be arrested and arraigned because Kenya Kwanza government has no time to pursue them.

“You even saw that Ksh6 billion was taken and looted through the Telkom deal. When we got into office, we resolved not to go after people because we did not have the time,” he said.5dc829a1ab8f44748cf2f8acb2b3014e?quality=uhq&resize=720

The second in command said the Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to fulfill some of its election promises because it was facing financial constrains after Uhuru’s regime emptied national coffers.

“The money was used in campaigning for our opponents and other things that have no value to the country,” he claimed.

Gachagua made the remarks on Thursday during a roundtable meeting with radio journalists in Kericho county.

On March, the DP threatened to reveal the names of individuals in the previous administration who embezzled public funds, claiming looted money was ferried to Wilson airport where officials boarded planes to transport it to undisclosed locations.

“These people robbed the nation. In the next few days I will be releasing details of billions of shillings looted from public coffers in the last three months of the Uhuru administration and announce the ministers and PSs responsible so that Kenyans can know,” Gachagua said during a church function in Roysambu.68227adc063e45ecb52a877195ed0dd4?quality=uhq&resize=720
