At the time the then Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula wanted to teach Governor Ken Lusaka a political lesson, he picked political greenhorn in Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati to take on the errant county chief.

Wetangula and Lusaka were not seeing eye to eye- politically speaking. Wheress the now National Assembly Speaker was on the opposition NASA coalition, the Governor was in Jubilee government. At the time, he was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s point man in Bungoma.

While flying the Ford Kenya party ticket, the veteran actuary sent Lusaka home. And yes, Wetangula had used Wangamati to help him win the battle.

But five years later, things suddenly changed and the roles reversed. This time round, it was Wetangula and Lusaka ganging against Wangamati who had fallen out with the Ford Kenya boss.

Wangamati had decamped to former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s Democratic Action Party. And as such, he was Azimio la Umoja coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s point man in Wetangula’s backyard.

This time round, Wetangula alias Papa wa Roma had teamed up with the then Deputy President William Ruto against Raila. And Wangamati found himself in this mix. But unfortunately for him, his quest for a second term in office backfired after being ousted by the very man he had defeated in 2017- Lusaka.

Now finding himself langushing in the political cold, the former county chief must be regretting his decision to dump Wetangula for Raila.
