Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has suffered yet another major setback after a section of his ODM members from Migori county ditched the party on Tuesday and joined WPresident William Ruto’s UDA party.
Speaking while announcing their defection from ODM, the members cited frustrations from a section of ODM leaders as their main reasons for defection.
“The people surrounding our Baba are now failing that party and are out o kill ODM. As people from this region, we are ditching ODM for UDA because we have been chased away, we are going to a democratic party called UDA and we will be live members of this party,” stated one resident.
They accused ODM leaders whom they said have isolated them from ODM party’s affairs and that they are opening up the region for Ruto’s UDA party in the oncoming 2027 elections
“We have been toasted up and down by the ODM party. Today we are closing the door for ODM in this region and come 2027, our president will know that we have closed doors for the ODM team in this region,” added another member
“We have been marginalized for so long in the Nyatike sub-county. We thank so much President Ruto for recognizing us at last and because he is our leader, the entire Nyatike has been turned into a UDA zone,” added another female supporter.
This comes just a few days after Ruto briefly postponed his visit to the Nyanza region. President Ruto was supposed to visit Homa Bay on July 8 for the thanksgiving ceremony of Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo, but the meeting was postponed to July 15 due to other engagements.
The head of state will then return for another meeting in Gem, Siaya County, on August 5 next month. His allies are busy preparing the ground for him, where he will launch different developmental projects in the region
