There is a fire in the Azimio house after revelations that talks between President Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga have started through proxies, and the focus has now shifted to the finer details that will broker peace and return the country back to normal. The simmering tension between Azimio outfits is at play on whether the talks will go the 2018 way where there was a handshake and some principals were left out by Raila Odinga when he met the then president Uhuru Kenyatta. Those in government are also fearing that the talks might culminate in some working arrangements between President Ruto and Raila Odinga where if a deal is reached, some government officials might be rendered irrelevant.
Most leaders are concerned about the current political climate and the growing rifts between the opposition and the government. There is a lot of disagreement about who will represent each side, and some Azimio leaders have even accused their colleagues of being selfish and prematurely lobbying for Cabinet Secretary posts. It’s important that we focus on finding common ground and working together for the good of the country, one Azimio leader was heard lamenting.
