Police Respond To Letter Warning Kenyans Planning Occupy Parliament Protests

The National Police Service (NPS) has denied that its officers arrested former Limuru Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Mwathi following chaos witnessed on Thursday, November 28 during a funeral attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru, Kiambu County.

In a statement, Police spokesperson Resila Onyango revealed that following the chaos which occurred during the funeral of the late Erastus Nduati in Limuru, and the subsequent call by leaders seeking to establish the whereabouts of Mwathi at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters on Thursday night, the NPS updated the public on the status of its investigations.

NPS revealed that the incident happened at the time Mwathi was addressing mourners at Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru, when unknown individuals started hurling objects and chairs, forcing mourners to scamper for safety.

Consequently, property of unknown number and value was damaged, but so far, “we have received a report from only one complainant.”

“Further, we wish to clarify that the National Police Service did not arrest Hon. Peter Mwathi, and he is not a person of interest to the Police,” NPS clarified, adding DCI Limuru has commenced investigations into the matter to establish the cause of the chaos and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The Officers are currently on the ground recording statements from family members of the deceased. We call upon anybody with information that may aid in the arrest of the suspects who invaded the burial to report to the nearest police station, even as we reaffirm our commitment to serve and protect all Kenyans.”
