One dies as Chavakali Boys’ students involved in road accident

One student from Chavakali Boys’ High School has been confirmed dead in a road accident that occurred at the Mamboleo area in Kisumu on Monday night April 1, 2024.

Several others are nursing injuries in the accident that occurred at 9:00 pm at the Coptic roundabout.

“It happened that the vehicle was negotiating the said Coptic roundabout on its way Kisumu general direction from Kakamega when the driver lost control and hit a rail guard, and the vehicle fell down at the edge of the road and rested on its left side,” a report filed at the Kondele Police Station said.

Some of the injured students are being treated at Avenue Hospital while 32 others are receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

This is the second accident involving a school bus after the Kapsabet Boys’ School was also thrown into a mourning state due to a crash that occurred on Kabarnet-Marigat Road.

The incident that occurred in the Patkawanin area of Baringo County on Saturday, March 16, 2024, claimed the lives of a student and a teacher. The school was on a geographical trip to Lake Bogoria in Baringo South.

Salama accident

The cases of road accidents in the country have been on the rise, and the Chavakali Boys’ one comes after another was reported along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway in Makueni County.

The accident at Salama, which occurred on April 1, claimed 10 lives, and 11 others are recuperating.

The police said the Salama accident occurred after the driver of one of the vehicles failed to keep his lane, leading to the fatal crash.

“It happened that motor vehicle registration number KBC 564M Isuzu FSR was being driven from Nairobi general direction towards Mombasa general direction, and on reaching the accident site, the driver failed to keep to his proper lane and also made a sudden right turn without due care and attention, resulting in a head-on collision with motor vehicle registration number KDK 259U Toyota Hiace Matatu of Spanish Sacco,” Mukaa Sub-county Police Commander Barnabas Ng’eno said.
