ODPP congratulates AG nominee Dorcas Oduor

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has joined other agencies in congratulating Attorney General nominee Dorcas Oduor.

In a congratulatory post shared via their official X account on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the Renson Ingonga-led agency commended Oduor for being nominated to the position.

“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions congratulates Madam Dorcas Oduor, SC, EBS, OGW, on her nomination for the position of Attorney General by H.E. President Ruto,” the statement reads in parts.

 

Dorcas Oduor, currently serving as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the ODPP and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya was nominated as the new AG yesterday.

“Senior Counsel Dorcas Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” President William Ruto announced through his Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei yesterday.

The seasoned lawyer holds a Masters of Arts in International Conflict Management (UoN), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree (UoN) and a Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

She brings over 30 years of legal experience in the public sector having previously served  as the Head of Economic, International and Emerging Crimes Departments at the ODPP, and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Oduor has also worked as a state counsel for the DPP, at the office of the AG, and an Assisting Counsel Akiwumi Commission on land clashes, assisting counsel Bosire Commission on the Goldenberg Affair, and Assisting Counsel Kiruki Commission on Artur Brothers.

She has also served as a chair of the board of review on mentally insane – criminal psychiatry, chair of the board on criminal psychiatrists and a member of different committees such as the National Task Force on Money Laundering and terrorist financing, and the joint secretary reform commission.

Her nomination creates history as she stands to become the first female Attorney General if approved by the National Assembly.
