“Not Yet Uhuru” Siaya DG in Fresh Trouble As MCAs Move To Court To Challenge His Acquittal

William Oduol, the deputy governor of Siaya, appears to still be having problems as members of the County Assembly are requesting an order declaring him ineligible for office.

After the Senate overruled their vote to impeach him, the MCAs took their case to the High Court in Siaya the following day.

The Ward representative unanimously agreed that they should initiate a constitutional petition against Oduol in response to a notice of motion submitted by Ukwala MCA Peter Oduor.

Oduor’s motion was founded on the conclusions of the Senate special committee, which declared Oduol guilty of the charges of flagrant abuse of power, the Constitution, and gross misconduct.

The decision of the assembly stated, in part, “A Constitutional Petition be filled by the County Assembly of Siaya, at the High Court of Kenya at Siaya, to find the Deputy Governor, Siaya County, William Oduol, unfit to hold Public Office.”

Additionally, the assembly demanded that Governor James Orengo reverse his order designating Oduol as the county’s main financial officer.

“The Governor, County Government of Siaya do revoke the letter to the Acting Chief Officer Finance dated 6th October 2022 and any such letter to County Officers requiring and or directing the said officers to report and or brief the Deputy Governor, William Oduol and that the reporting and or briefings by the officers in the establishment be as law established,” the MCA states.

Additionally, they requested that Orengo refrain from giving Oduol any managerial responsibilities until all ongoing inquiries regarding his behaviour have been resolved.

“Until the final conclusion of the aforesaid investigations, the Governor, County Government of Siaya, do stop assigning the Deputy Governor, William Oduol, any roles in the management of the county affairs of Siaya County Government pending the conclusion of the investigations,”
