“No Handshake” Why DP Rigathi Gachagua is allegedly Blocking Talks Between President Ruto and Raila Odinga

Local and International leaders have raised concerns over the increased political temperatures in the country due to now and them opposition anti-government protests.

The continue anti-government protests have brought together religious leaders, human rights and international bodies to beseeching President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga to come to a negotiation table in order to bring stability and peace in the country.

Before embarking to Tanzania for a human capital meeting, Ruto through a tweet invited Raila for talks after he jets backs to the country.

However, new details have emerged that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is so much not into welcoming the talks despite the president willing to.

One of Kenya Kwanza politician revealed that Gachagua is against the talks having fears that he might be put aside and his roles reassigned to another person just like Ruto, while the Deputy president, got his roles reassigned by former President Uhuru Kenyatta after the famous handshake with Raila in 2018.

According to Gachagua, if the talks takes place and Raila gets his demands then the move may bring confusion to the political arrangement of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“This is where the bone of contention is, the President does not seem to have issues with the proposals for the purposes of stabilizing the country but the Deputy Presiden Rigathi Gachagua is apprehensive that the move will relegate him to a shadow position,” an MP who sought anonymity said.7687619bacdb492d8d864116b500b544?quality=uhq&resize=720

For talks to take place, Raila is alleged to have formed a team of three-member committee mandated to table to Ruto a deal which contains Raila’s demands such as the introduction of the office of Official Leader of Opposition and shadow Cabinet Secretaries who will be facilitated by the State and Cabinet reshuffle to include at least three of Raila’s allies in government.
