Kenyan socialite and entrepreneur Huddah Monroe has advised her followers to avoid giving power to people from poor backgrounds.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Monroe, who has been a vocal critic of President William Ruto and his administration, noted that such leaders do not know what to do with the power given to them unless they have established successful businesses.

The beauty mogul also expressed regret over her previous support for Ruto, claiming she had placed the wrong bet.

“Now you know, never ever give power to the son of a poor man! Unless he has built successful businesses. They wouldn’t know what to do with it,” Huddah stated.

“I placed the wrong bet. I was one of those people who shamelessly advocated for ‘Must Go’,” she wrote, reflecting on her past political stance.

Worst president

This isn’t the first instance where the outspoken socialite has criticized President Ruto’s administration. Amid surging fuel and food prices in September 2023, Huddah voiced her discontent, predicting that Ruto would be remembered as Kenya’s worst president.

“Ruto will be the worst president Kenya has ever seen,” she declared.

Her social media rant continued, expressing further concern over the country’s economy under Ruto’s rule.

“Lesson learnt, never give the son of a poor man the presidential seat. Kenya is going back 30 years… The worst is yet to come,” she stated.

Huddah’s love for Ruto

Interestingly, Huddah had previously been a vocal supporter of Ruto, backing him even before he assumed the presidency.

As far back as 2017, she voiced her belief that Ruto would be an effective leader for Kenya.

“I’d rather have a Ruto presidency. The man doesn’t play these cat-and-mouse games. We wouldn’t be in this position in a Moi era. Sometimes a dictator is best,” she emphasized.

Her support for Ruto even came with criticism of the opposition’s rallying vision of reaching “Canaan,” hinting it was an unrealistic ambition.

“Seems we will be swiped dead by the sea before we cross over to Canaan. I wish the Canaanite’s leader was Abduba Dida. Chances would be high. Lakini no hope,” she noted.

When Ruto won in the 2022 presidential election, Huddah was among the first to celebrate, sharing numerous images of the 57-year-old leader on her Instagram stories, where she labelled him as “my president.”

She expressed a renewed sense of national pride.

“I am proud to be a Kenyan from today. Africa deserves strong, sober, young leaders. Kenya has made a change for Africa. I will carry my flag and passport with pride from today. I am from Kenya, the greatest country in Africa!” she stated.
