Per his remarks, he is clear on standing for the rights of the young people of the country.

In a not-so-surprising move, lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso has declared his intention to seek the highest elective seat in the Republic of Kenya, the Presidency. At the age of 29, he aims to become the youngest president Kenya has ever had.

He made his intentions clear through a post on X on Monday, November 18. Per his remarks, he is clear on standing for the rights of the young people of the country.

“I will run for president of the Republic of Kenya. My tribe is the youth of Kenya,” he kept it short and simple.

His rise to political and national fame during the Gen Z anti-government protests has been nothing short of remarkable. It began with his activism covering projects stalled under President William Ruto’s government, all under the hashtag “Vampire Diaries,” highlighting mismanagement of taxpayer funds.

His endeavours have attracted significant social media attention and clarifications from State House aplenty have only served to intensify his street cred as well as opposition towards the government of the day.

With Kenyans crying foul over the government’s heartless policies and tax-raising measures, anyone including revered opposition leaders aiming to challenge President Ruto’s regime in the upcoming 2027 general elections has attracted significant fame and praise, with Morara now viewed as a very strong representative of the youth at the highest seat in the country.

This is considering that Kasmuel McOure, another popular figure who rose to fame during the GenZ protests, joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and rallied young Kenyans to join the party, a call and a move that has seen him lose appeal amongst the very Gen Zs who supported him.

In a statement on Sunday, November 10, Kasmuel stated that ODM is the party for the future, claiming that it is the largest pro-people party in East and Central Africa.

“If you’re willing to join a substantive political movement for a fair, democratic Kenya where everyone can live with dignity, consider ODM—the largest pro-people party in East and Central Africa! We’re revitalizing the Youth and Students’ Leagues and are calling on passionate young Kenyans to help shape our future. Stand with us,” he remarked.

Morara has however decried that he would not be enticed to join either ODM or United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and the Wiper Party, claiming on Thursday, November 14 that this is a plot by the political class to dim the limelight of the Gen Z movement in Kenya by having its leaders join the top political parties.

He termed this finding as the reason he moved to form his political party, the ‘Injection of National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT)’, so that Gen Z could come up with their political discourse.

Morara stamped his foot by declaring that he would not join any of the top three parties, affirming that their time in politics was up. Born into a politically active family, he leveraged his background and skills in drama to engage audiences, blending humour with civic education.

“There is a very serious concerted effort to swallow all GenZ leaders into mainstream political parties to teach them the old corrupt style of politics. That is why we formed the INJECT Party. We will chart our own path. I will not join UDA, ODM or Wiper, their time is over. It is our time now. Consistency to the end,” he wrote.

On October 1, Morara received a win after the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu approved the reservation of the INJECT party name as he continues to come up with a political path different from what has been the case throughout the years.

Morara’s momentum went up a notch following his arrest on September 30 and his subsequent release on October 1 after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) preferred charges against him including cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.

On October 8, 2024, he was arrested by police after attending a public participation event regarding the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Just days earlier, on October 4, Kebaso was violently attacked at the Bomas of Kenya while attempting to participate in the same event.  An unidentified group assaulted him, throwing chairs and causing injuries to his head and neck.
