Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Suleiman Shabal is set to hold a press conference today to announce his next political move ahead of 2027 general election.
According to Murang’a ODM senatorial aspirant in 2022 polls Pius Kinuthia, Shabal would address journalists of a variety of media houses at 7 PM in the evening. He alleged rumours did rounds that he would announce defection from the former prime minister Raila Odinga-led party and Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance. “EALA MP Suleiman Shabal to speak to the Press tonight at 7PM.There are speculations that he will announce his divorce from AZIMIO and the ODM Party,” said Kinuthia in a tweet.
Shabal attempted to topple former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho in 2017 gubernatorial election on a Jubilee. However, he was vanquished. In the run up to 2022 general election, he was in Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance camp. ODM nominated him for appointment to EALA.
This comes as Kenyans allow political leaders who were elected in 2022 to deliver on their responsibilities as the country focus on 2027 polls which are set to be conducted in four years time.
As usual, in Kenya, when general elections days come closer, politicians engross themselves in diverse forms of preparations in anticipation for them. They include declaration of vacancies they were going to run for, defection to different political camps apart from their present ones, pronouncing support for certain presidential candidates and even announcing retirement from politics.
