At the time former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is assembling his best team in readiness for the 2027 political showdown, this retired military man could be his best weapon against President William Ruto.
Already powerful, Tana River County Governor Major General ( Rtd) Dadho Godana is a key Raila ally with their close political relationship dating back to their days as MPs in the 10th Parliament.
With the future of former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho hanging in the balance after taking a low profile in politics, could the ex-Kenya Army man be nurtured by Raila to take over from the “Sultan”?
Joho has been missing in action since the 2022 general election. Many have been left speculating on whether the former county chief is still in ODM where he served as Raila’s deputy.
But for the Tana River County Governor, over the last few years, he has confirmed that he is no pushover in politics.Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga ( Photo Courtesy)
Now in his second term as Governor, the former Galole MP and Assistant minister during the Mwai Kibaki adminstration, is a political heavyweight in his own rights.
Though he may not be Joho’s one-on-one replacement, but the former assistant Chief of Defence Forces in-charge of personnel and logistics could somehow fit into the former Mombasa Governor’s political shoes.
With Raila having lost nearly all his key allies in the Coast region to President William Ruto, this will be the right time for him to assemble a new team of point men and women in the region. And the retired Kenya Army general is equal to the task to lead his new team in Coast.
