Mature Politics as Top ODM Official Praises Influential UDA Governor Over Devolution Conference

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communication Director Philip Etale on Sunday praised Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, days after she led governors and other guests during the 10th anniversary of devolution.

Taking to his Twitter account, Etale argued that as the chairperson of the Council of Governors, Waiguru treated all leaders with respect irrespective of their political affiliations during the event that took place in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

“The Governor of Kirinyaga County and Chairperson of the @KenyaGovernors Madam @AnneWaiguru was not only professional during the Devolution Conference but also a good host to every guest who was invited to grace the event. She was hands on and treated every guest with respect,” tweeted Etale.

Waiguru and the other 47 governors had invited President William Ruto, the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga in honour of the devolved units and the strides made in bringing services closer to the people.

This was praised as a great move that sought to unite the country for one course, with President Ruto opening the function on Wednesday, Raila making his remarks on Thursday as Gachagua officially closed the function on Friday.

Despite the county bosses, elected leaders and guests listing the benefits of devolution and its challenges, politics took the center stage especially after the United States ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman commented on the August 2022 polls, a move that did not sit well with the Azimio leaders.

In her remarks, Whitman said the polls were the most credible in Kenyan history, with Azimio leaders coming out to claim it was wrong for the US envoy to comment on the polls when the Azimio side had tabled the issue of IEBC servers for talks with Kenya Kwanza wing.
