Hon. Alfred Keter, a former member of parliament from Nandi Hills, reappeared online on June 28th evening with a direct appeal to Kenya Kwanza’s government.

Speaking via his official Twitter account, Keter expressed his displeasure with Kenya Kwanza’s government’s decision to propose new taxes, which are seen as punitive by most leaders.

Keter believes it is unacceptable for Ruto’s administration to enact reckless policies in the sake of raising money.

“I find it extremely troubling that a leadership that was elected on the promise of reviving the economy is now pursuing very difficult and reckless actions for purely political reasons. You already know, @DavidNdii, that excessive taxation will never bring about prosperity for us.

His remarks came days after President William Ruto, despite widespread protest, approved the contentious fiscal measure at the statehouse.

Among other things, Ruto’s financial plan is anticipated to quadruple the VAT tax on petrol, which the opposition claims might have an impact on regular Kenyans.4ed689f7ca7846a3b445a5251ab8aa81?quality=uhq&resize=720

However, the camp of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, led by the former prime minister Raila Odinga, yesterday began a civil disobedience in opposition to Ruto’s plan.

Mr Odinga’s move is expected to help kenyans refund their money by reducing income from VAT tax. He called on kenyans to embrace walking instead of using cars or public transport.
